Samuel Phillips passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

Samuel was born on May 12, 1947, in Memphis Tennessee, the son of Edward Phillips and Dora Bell who preceded him in death.

Sam resided in Memphis for most of his life where he was a truck driver for many years until his health began to decline. Six years ago, he relocated to Springfield, Illinois to live with two of his sons, Charles Phillips and Paul Phillips.

Sam was a man a faith and family. He got joy out of reading the bible as much as he could. He also enjoyed listening to gospel and blues along with fishing.

He is survived by four children, Paul (Tiffany) Phillips and Charles Phillips (Mary Seitz) of Springfield, Illinois, and Anthony (Vernita) Phillips and Sam Phillips Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; several grandchildren; one sister, Annabell Mims; one brother, Elder Micheal David Shumperd and many other family and friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Frank Phillips and Edward Phillips.
