Mrs. Dreng Bjornaraa, 2926 W. Saturday afternoon, April 15, at River Road, Minneapolis, died Fairview hospital in Minneapolis. She had been ailing since December 15, 1958, when she suffered a cerebral thrombosis attack.
Mrs. Bjornaraa, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Knudsen of Thief River Falls was born June 18, 1898 on a farm in eastern Marshall county. Starting her education in a rural one-room school, she completed the elementary grades in Thief River Falls and graduated from high school in 1919. After graduating from the Minneapolis General Hospital nurses training school in 1922, she was engaged in nursing in Chicago Puposky, Minn., and Thief River Falls.
In 1922 she married Mr. Bjornaraa, then editor of the Thief River Falls Times. They moved to Minneapolis in 1927 and following additional training in public health nursing at the University of Minnesota she joined the staff of the Minneapolis public health department where she served from 1928 to 1931. The family moved to St. Louis, Mo., in 1937 and to Washington, D.C. in 1939, returning in 1943 to the Twin Cities where they have resided since.
She is survived by her husband, district director of public relations for United States Steel Corporation; one daughter, Mrs. Robert E. (Carolyn) Wells, 5437 Emerson av. S., Minneapolis; two granddaughters, Barbara and Dianne Wells, and a brother, Clarence Knudsen of Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, at 2 p.m., at University Lutheran church of Hope, 601 Thirteenth av. S.E. Minneapolis, Rev. David Preus officiating.
The family prefers memorials to University Lutheran Church of Hope and Fairview hospital.
In addition to association with the Women's Society of her church. Mrs. Bjornaraa was a member of the Progressive Literary Society of Minneapolis, the Minneapolis General Hospital Nurses Alumni association, the Women's Auxillary of Fairview Hospital, Nordlands Minde society, and the Olive Frernstad Ladies Chorus. In 1954 she traveled with the Nina Grieg chorus on a concert tour of Norway, also visiting Copenhagen and Paris.
