Church burials have his age as 89 years at the time of his death. On the June 24, 1870 enumeration of Ash Township, Michael's age was given as sixty years old. Both his parents were foreign born, and Michael could not read nor write. All of Michael's seven children had attended school this year, except the infant son Francis who was born in April of that year.
On June 1, 1880 Michael's family was the eighth family to have the enumeration taken in Ash Township by Mr. Littlefield. Michael's age was given as sixty-four years old, born in Ireland, as well as his parents. Michael was a farmer in Ash Township and he could not read or write. His wife Mary was forty-nine years old, born in New York. Four children were home, all born in Michigan, Thomas, Michael, Mary, and Frank. All the children were listed as "At home", and were not listed as others were, that they were attending school. This was not exactly a well developed area, even in 1880. No 1890 Monroe County census, as may have been destroyed by fire, or for some reason. Not sure if state census.
On June 26, 1900, son Thomas Kilty was thirty-nine years old, said he was born in September, 1860 in Michigan. Thomas stated his father was born in Ireland, mother was born in New York. He owned the farm, but had a mortgage on it and that he worked the farm. His entry was the last for that day. No other Kilty's were listed in the Ash Township Census for 1900. Now these census could have been taken before the actual date. The reason would have been wilderness of the area for the enumerator to get it covered.
The church death records for the family does not match up with some of the census records. Michael's last born child, Francis died on November 10, 1899 and buried on November 13, 1899.
