William “Bill” F. Butler, 93, formerly of Charles City and longtime businessman at Butler Men’s Wear, died Friday, August 30, 2019 at Nation’s Cottage in Cedar Falls.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Fullerton Funeral Home 401 Blunt, Charles City. Deacon Mike Ward of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

William Francis Butler was born on April 10, 1926 in Williams, Iowa the son of Harry and Bernadine (Doyle) Butler. He graduated from high school and then served in the Navy as a Sonar Specialist. He was honorably discharged. He served as an orderly at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He later worked for Leuthold Brothers in LaVerne, MN where he met the love of his life, Bernice Piper. Bill was united in marriage to Bernice on June 28, 1948 in LaVerne and began their adventures together for almost 50 years before Bernie’s death on March 30. 1998. To this union was born two daughters Jill and Jean. They moved to Charles City in 1952 where Bill opened and operated a men’s clothing store that was eventually known as Butler’s Men’s Wear.

Bill is survived by his daughters Jill and her husband Tim Schroeder of Danbury, Wisconsin and Jean and her husband Dennis Kinard of Cedar Falls, Iowa, four grandchildren William “B.J.” (Jessica) Kinard, Justin (Liat) Kinard, Jason Schroeder, and Brian (Joelynn) Schroeder, three Great Grandchildren Addison Miller, Brevin and Paxton Kinard, two brothers Robert “Bob” (Gloria) Butler, and James “Jim” (JoNette) Butler.

Preceding Bill in death are his parents, wife and one brother Richard “Dick” Butler.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Stanard Assisted Living and Nations Cottage, both Wester Home Communities in Cedar Falls. Their love compassion and outstanding care made Bills last year special.
