Richard King Jay, 88 years of age, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 29, 2019, in Springfield. MO. He was born on August 18, 1931, in Boulder, Colorado to John Robinson Jay and Aileen Elizabeth Inman. Richard attended Narbonne High School in Torrance, California. He married the love of his live, Gwendolyn Jeanne Plott on October 1, 1952. To this union, five children were born: Richard Jr., David, Terry, Jeffrey, and Jennifer.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea, he then worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as telephone installer/repairman for over 25 years. Richard later worked at Lockheed installing/repairing computers. He enjoyed family get-togethers, gardening, feeding his humming birds, was an avid reader, and a ham radio operator.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne; children: Richard Jr., and his wife Terri Jay, Terry Lee and her husband Samuel Scott, Jeffrey Allen and his wife, Catherine Jay, and Jennifer and her husband Doug Phillips, his 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, David Michael Jay.

A military memorial service will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO, where Richard will receive full military honors on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 12:00 noon.

Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd.-DeGraffenreid-Wood-Crematory, Springfield, Missouri.
