Duane Leslie Myers was born in Hawarden, IA, to Robert and Doris (DeMotts) Myers. Duane was raised with one brother and four sisters. He graduated from West Sioux High School in 1973. Duane married Renee Wegner, and had their daughter, Stephanie. He met and married Colette Simons in 1991 and they made their home in Sturgis. Colette became step-mother to Duane’s only child, Stephanie, and helped raise her in a Christian home. Duane worked 30 years for Stanley Johnson as a concrete foreman before retiring in 2017.
Duane was the comedian of the family. He loved time with family and friends, fishing, Nascar, gaming, time at the cabin in the woods, fireworks, and our Lord. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, friends, and neighbors.
Duane passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at his home in Sturgis at the age of 64.
He is survived by his wife, Colette Myers; daughter, Stephanie Hughes; son-in-law, Scott Hughes; 3 grandsons, Brandon, Caleb, and Samual; mother, Doris Merrick; brother, Alan Peterson; sisters, Sandra Henry, Linda Gjesdal, Diane Hendricks, and Sharon Nielsen; and many nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leslie Myers.
A celebration of life will be held for Duane on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in basement only from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
