Boston, Aug 25 – We understand that Mr Evstaphieve, appointed by the Emporer of Russia, his Consul for this place, has arrived in town

From the 1879 Obit of his son: "Alexander Alexis Eustachieve was born in Boston, MA on March 15, 1812, his father being a Russian gentleman, who for a number of years held the honorable position of Russian Consul at New York City. "

Boston Herald (Boston, MA) Sunday, April 10, 1921

Came to Boston in 1809 - "One finds the Eustaphieves establishing themselves here and picking out the Amory House on Beacon Street for a residence. In 1809, when the consul arrived here, Christopher Gore was Governor of the commonwealth, Boston was still a town, to be so until 1839.

The new Russian Consul was presumably the first one to this port from Russia. The Boston Directory for 1809 fails to list his name or that of any Russian Consul, although it mentions the British, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish and Swedish Consul. But, Eustaphieve is listed in the 1810 Directory as Consul and in succeeding directories up to and including 1828, the year he was elevated to the rank of Russion Consul-General in New York.

It was not until the spring of 1810 that Eustaphieve secured the Amory residence as indicated by a rent receipt with a message on the back of the paper from Rufus G Amory.
