David Lewis Godfrey, age 74, of Hanover, WV, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at his residence, following a long illness. David was born November 18, 1944 in Hanover, WV, a son of the late Loss and Leona Basham Godfrey. He was owner of Godfrey’s Corner and D & C Discount in Hanover, WV. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by sister, Arlene Godfrey, one brother, Joseph Elliott Godfrey and a niece, Stacey Hartman. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Connie G. Godfrey of the home, three sons, David Godfrey II and wife Misty of Hanover, James E. Godfrey and wife Rebecca of Bradshaw, WV and Randy Godfrey and wife Tammy of Bluewell, WV; six grandchildren, Blake, Ethan, Brianna, Jasmine, Elijah and Jaxton; three brothers, James Marshall Godfrey of South Point, OH, Loss Godfrey Jr. of Hanover, WV and John Keith Godfrey of Hanover, WV; three sisters, Patricia Bloggett and husband Mike of Huntington, WV, Judy Mullins and husband Darrell of Sevierville, TN and Sheila St. Clair and husband Gary of Clear Fork, WV. A host of nieces and nephews and a legacy of family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 7 P.M. with Reverend Jackie Lester and Reverend Ronnie Lester officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home, in Iaeger, WV. Military rites will be held at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 6 P.M., under the direction of the VFW post 1144 of Iaeger, WV. David’s wishes were to be cremated after the service. In leu of flowers, please make donations to the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church parking lot fund.
