LAWRENCE E SHARP, 82, of Springfield, Ohio and formerly of Liberty, Indiana, died Thursday evening, March 3, 2005 in Ridgewood Nursing Home. He was born in Liberty, Indiana on August 29, 1922 the son of the late Leo Holmes and Mabel (Sanford) Sharp.

He was a graduate of Short High School in Liberty. He served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII serving in France and Germany. Upon his return from military service he began working at Union County National Bank and retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors and President in 1986. He was a graduate of the Stonier School of Banking, Rutgers University; Kentucky School of Banking, University of Kentucky; National Trust School, Northwestern University; and National Installment Loan School, University of Chicago.

He served as past-president of Region 5 Indiana Bankers Association, Council of Administration, Indiana Bankers Association, and President of Southeastern Indiana National Association of Bank Auditors and Comptrollers. He was past-president of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, Union County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Union County United Fund Inc. He served on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Eastern Indiana, executive committee of the Whitewater Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop Committee of Troop #40 B.S.A., Liberty where he received the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service, treasurer of Liberty Country Club, past-president of Liberty Commercial Club, and trustee and treasurer of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, Liberty. He was a member of Liberty Lodge #58 F. & A. M., Scottish Rite, Indianapolis, and American Legion Post #122, Liberty. Lawrence enjoyed golfing, gardening and travel.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Jane (Harris) Sharp; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen L. and Denise Sharp of Springfield; daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and D. Michael Brewster of Castle Rock, Colorado; sister, Mary Alice Crowder of Liberty, Indiana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbur and Jan Sharp of Roanoke, Virginia and Glen and Jo Sharp of Redondo Beach, California; and two grandchildren, Katherine and Wesley Sharp of Springfield. His brother-in-law, Ralph Crowder preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005 in Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor David Rockhill officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Parkinson’s Foundation, 325 N. Third St., Fairborn, Ohio, 45324 or Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, 4 W. Seminary St., Liberty, Indiana, 47353.
