A loving son, father, and grandfather, Johnny Abel Gonzales, 57, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, in Roswell, New Mexico.

A rosary will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass service at on 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.

On July 3, 1962, Johnny was born to Frank and Virginia Gonzales in Roswell, New Mexico.

He graduated from Roswell High School. Prior to retirement, Johnny worked as a mechanic and labor work. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and looked forward to watching their games.

Always joking and laughing, Johnny had a great sense of humor. There was not a day he didn’t smile or laugh, and that’s what he loved doing and wanted everyone to do. He was a generous person who enjoyed hanging around with his friends. Johnny loved eating, especially ice cream and cake. He was a Classic Chevy lover who liked collecting antiques. Johnny was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known him.

Preceding Johnny in death are his granddaughter, Lyrissa Marie Ortega; father, Johnny Chonito Gonzales; grandparents, Augustina and Abel Brady, Annie, and Chon Gonzales; and brother, “Frankie G.” Gonzales.

Those left to celebrate Johnny’s life are his children: Yvette Marie Gonzales, Johnny Abel Gonzales, Savannah Elisa Gonzales; grandchildren: Abrieana Guevara, Geno Gonzales, Izabella Tenorio, Edgar Rodriguez; parents, Virginia and Frank Gonzales; his sisters, Gloria and husband Eddie Ray Duran, Monica and husband Jose Rodriguez, Yvonne and husband Pedro Limon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Thomas Brady, Geno Gonzales, Frank Gamboa, Jose Rodriguez, Sergio Tegeda, and Frank Tegeda.

Chosen to serve as honorary pallbearers are Eddie Ray Duran and Billy Brady.
