Matthew Anthony Anderson suddenly departed this life on Sunday August 18, 2019. He was born on August 25, 1991 to Anthony and Kim Torrence Anderson at Humana Hospital in Orange Park, FL.

Matthew began his education at Little Lambs Christian Academy located in Orange Park, FL. He then attended schools in Green Cove Springs, FL and he graduated from Clay High School in 2010. He was a member of the Clay High School band, using his talent to play the clarinet, French horn, trumpet and drums. Matthew’s many hobbies included fishing, boating, golfing and skateboarding. Matthew also ran Cross Country and was a member of the soccer and tennis teams. He was the greatest Jaguar fan.

Matthew had an infectious smile and laugh from the time he was born. He was affectionately known as “Dumpling” by his great grandma “Big Grandma Long”. He had a warm and friendly personality and never met a stranger. He loved his family and very seldom missed a family gathering. Matthew started his spiritual journey from birth, he was what you call a church baby, beginning his journey at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. H. T. Rhim, where he was baptized and was trained to serve in the sound ministry. Matthew joined his family at First African Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. C. J. Jenkins, Jr. where he served in the sound ministry. He is currently a member of Celebration Church, under the leadership of Pastor Stovall Weems, where he rededicated his life to Christ and was rebaptized.

Matthew was employed with KMG Landscaping and Lawn located in Middleburg, FL. He aspired to starting his own lawn service in the future.

Matthew was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Torrence; maternal great-grandparents, Jeffrey and Maggie McBride; paternal grandfather, Richard Anderson; paternal great-grandparents, Anna and Kenneth Long and loving godfather, Ross William Coleman, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his wonderful life, parents, Deacon Anthony Michael and Deaconess Kim (Torrence) Anderson, Fleming Island, FL; sister, Sarah Anderson, Gainesville, FL; paternal grandparents, Deaconess Alma (Anderson) and Jerry Hempfield, Green Cove Springs, FL; surrogate grandmother, “Nana” Sarah Presley, Green Cove Springs, FL; uncle, John Torrence, North Chesterfield, VA; aunts, Rev. Dr. Lisa Williams, Jacksonville, FL, Tracey Brooks (Bruce), Bronx, NY, and Shawna Anderson-Waller (Samuel), Stamford, CT; great-aunts, Angela Williams, Mamaroneck, NY, Joyce Johnson, Hope Mills, NC and Rev. Albertha Garrett (Melvin), Orange Park, FL; godparents, Edward and Essie Perry, Portsmouth, VA; spiritual mentor and cousin, Minister Rashad Williams, Jacksonville, FL; surrogate brother, Jacoby Hogans, Middleburg, FL; significant partner, Angie Herrmann and a host of cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First African Missionary Baptist Church, 433 Palmetto Avenue, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. The interment will take place on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
