EDSALL E. WALKER, SR.
ALBANY -- Edsall Elliott Walker, Sr. of 6 Little Lane, died Wednesday, February 19, 1997 at University Heights Nursing Home. Born September 15, 1910 in Catskill, NY, he was the son of the late Jeramiah and Isabelle Walker. He was educated in the Public School System of Catskill, NY. Mr. Walker was a member of the Negro Baseball League from 1936 to 1945, playing with the Homestead Graves. Upon his retirement he relocated to Albany in 1946 and continued to work in Baseball as a player and coach. He was an avid Little League Coach and Umpire at the American Little League and Arbor Hill Baseball field. He was a member of Capital City Lodge F & AM and Commando Lodge I.B.P.O.E. of W. He is predeceased by his parents, five brothers and sisters, one son Edsall Elliott Walker, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Walker; one son, Dewitt; one daughter, Barbara; one adopted daughter, AnnaBelle; 15 grandchildren, James, Rosina, Deborah, Edsall III, Vera, Deson, Damion, Tasheek (Timmy), Deonna, Gina, Jerome, DeWitt, Artie, Jackie and Renee. Also survived by 27 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 441 Washington Ave., Monday at 7 p.m. Calling hours will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the church. Interment, Memory's Garden, Colonie. Under the Direction of GARLAND BROS. FUNERAL HOME∼Negro League baseball player 1934-1945. Pitcher for the Zulu Canniball Giants, Homestead Grays, Albany Black Crackers, Philadelphia Stars, Newark Eagles and the Baltimore Elite Giants.
