Chief Phillip A. Thompson, age 67 of Hawkinsville, passed away Friday, August 30, 2019 in the Pine Manor Nursing Home in Hawkinsville. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 6th in the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery Chapel of Hodges Funeral Home in Dade City Florida. Time to be announced later.

Chief Thompson was born on July 24, 1952 in Dade City, Florida. He was son of the late Eugene and Helen Thompson. He was a retired Police Chief with Dade City Police Department. He was a deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office where he rose to the rank of Major. He was hired with the Dade City Police Department as Chief of Police. While Chief of Police for Dade City Police Department, he achieved his Masters in Criminology at St. Leo University. He then went on to teach Criminology College classes at St. Leo University. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Lavelle Thompson.

Survivors include: 2-step-sons-Chad (Aimee) Hughes of Rochelle and Josh (Stacie) Hughes of Marietta and 4-grandchildren.
