VERNAL--Samuel Duane Hatch, 81, of Vernal, passed away July 12, 1999, at the Ashley Valley Medical Center in Vernal of natural causes.

He was born October 20, 1917 in Vernal, a son of Samuel Joseph and Ivie Sarah Teeples Hatch. He married Leita Elnor Chatwin in 1935; they had three children. She died October 21, 1943. He married Eva Lucille Leger on August 30, 1944.In 1941 he became a member of the Utah Highway Patrol.

Sam is survived by his wife, Lucille Hatch; a sister, Donna Merrill; a son, Ronald Hatch; and two daughters, Venita (James) Arland and Janet (Tom) Abplanalp; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15, 1999, 11 a.m., in the Vernal First Ward Chapel, 250 North 200 West. Friends may call Wednesday evening, July 14, 1999 at Thomson's Vernal Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning at the Vernal First Ward Chapel one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery.
