Donald Laverne Christensen, 82, of Geddes, SD passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at his home. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the First Reformed Church in Platte, SD. A Committal Service will follow at Pleasant Lawn Cemetery in Geddes. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. prior to services on Wednesday.
Donald Laverne Christensen was born on August 5, 1937 to Peter Christen and Pearl Enese (Torgeson) Christensen in Bryant, SD. He attended high school and served his country in the National Guard. Don owned and operated a Texaco and a Standard Oil Service Station franchise, was Parts and Service Manager for Billion Auto and worked as a Forklift Operator at John Morrell in Sioux Falls, SD. He was also a member of the First Reformed Church in Platte, SD.
Donald was united in marriage to Laura Mae Poppen and from this union came four children: Carla Mae, Douglas Lee, Daniel Leon and Carlene Marie. Don was united in marriage to Sadie Venenga in Sioux Falls.
Don enjoyed the outdoors while pheasant hunting, boating, fishing and camping. He was an avid auto racing fan, attending the races at Huset’s Speedway every Sunday with his family.
Grateful for having shared in Don’s life: four children: Carla of Sioux Falls, SD; Douglas (Anne) of Lake City, FL, Daniel (Marleen) of Andijk, The Netherlands and Carlene of Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren: Amber, Jessica, Jordan, Jarred, Douglas Lee, Tanya and Catie; several great grandchildren; three step children; many step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Glendinning of Whittier, CA; along with many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his former wives: Laura and Sadie; a daughter, Angela Hofer (Jacob); his parents, Peter and Pearl Christensen; and two brothers, Dale and Delbert Christensen.
