Obituary of Jim Walton
Jim Walton of Rosedale, Mississippi died August 28, 2019 at Delta Regional Hospital. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. Memorial Service will immediately follow at Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Beulah Cemetery.

Jim was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 03, 1935 and was lovingly adopted by his parents Brewer Gehly Walton and Lola Trout Walton. He was a graduate of Germantown Friends School in Germantown, Pennsylvania, where he played football and sang in the choir. The choir was noted for its excellence and was directed on a special occasion by Eugene Ormandy of the Philadelphia Philharmonic. His love of choral performance continued throughout his life participating in church choirs. He enjoyed many forms of music: big band, jazz, Delta blues, and rock-and-roll, earning him his college nickname “Rock.” He graduated from the University of Delaware, where he was a member of the swim team and R.O.T.C. He was a member of the Sima Phi Epsilon Fraternity and served in serveral offices, most notably social chairman. Jim also served in the United States Armed Forces at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1955. Jim remained very close to his high school and college friends, visiting by phone with them often.



On Novemeber 02, 1963, he married the love of his life Joan Rogers in Memphis, Tennessee. His first job brought him to the South which he immediately loved and that love deepend by his marriage to a Southern girl. He was a manufactures’ representative for over fifty years selling commercial and institutional furniture in five southern states. He loved his work and was recognized as salesman of the year many times. They spent many years in Memphis and Louisiana and moved to Rosedale in 1993. While living in Rosedale, he was a member of the Rotary Club serving two terms as president, he also served in the Mid Delta Empowerment Zone. He was an honorary Rosedale fireman and was chairman of the Rosedale Industrial and Community Development Commission. Jim was a devout Christian and member of the Presbyterian Church serving as a deacon and elder.



Jim leaves his devoted wife of 55 years, Joan Rogers Walton, a loving daughter Beverly Walton Stanford and her husband Casey of Rosedale and a beloved granddaugther Elizabeth Lucile Smith.



He also leaves many friends who mourn his passing.



The family asked that in lieu of flowers, all contriubtutions be made to a charity of their choice.
