Martha "Marty" Dunning Long,
After a 26 year fight with Parkinson’s, Marty died peacefully Friday, August 23, 2019 at home in Indianapolis, IN. She was a loving wife, extraordinary mother, entertaining Nana, true friend and remarkable educator. Marty was born November 27, 1946 in Decatur, Illinois to Roy and Jane (Gullet) Dunning. She spent most of her childhood in Decatur; attended MacArthur High School. On June 12, 1971, she married John Long, former Washington, D.C., Indianapolis and Cincinnati Television Executive. She met John in college at DePauw University where she received a BA in Education.

In 1983, with close friend Jodi Thurmond, Marty co-founded the Circle School in Darnestown, Maryland; a Pre-School which evolved into a prestigious private grade school. Over the next 18 years, Marty devoted her working life developing and managing Pre-Schools in Maryland, Indianapolis, IN and Washington, D.C. In addition to the Circle School in Maryland, she served as Executive Director in Indianapolis at 2nd Presbyterian Church Children’s Circle Pre-School and Executive Director of Chevy Chase Baptist Church Pre-School (CCBC), a nationally renowned school in Chevy Chase, Maryland (D.C.). She was recognized as a gifted educator who truly understood the needs of young children. She touched the hearts and minds of thousands of young people.

Marty is survived by her husband of 48 years, John; sons Chris and his wife Sarina of Minneapolis, MN, Ryan and his wife Brandi of Stafford, VA, Justin and his wife Jessie of New York, NY and Rob and his wife Anna of Indianapolis, IN; brother Jay and his wife Debbie; Brother-in-law Tom Long and his wife Pat; Sister-in-law Diane Rose and her husband Richard; nieces Carey Long, Trish Long, Katie Long, Julie Dunning, Susan Neukirch, Emily Rose and Meghan Stowers; and nephew Tommy Long. Marty has 8 fascinating grandkids: Lucas, Kendra, Andrew, Camilla, Frankie, Evelyn, Maizie and Hugo; all members of the Long family.
