Dorothy Archer Carson, 77, of 1507 Washington Ave., Parkersburg, died Saturday evening in the St. Joseph's Hospital after a sudden illness.

She was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Dempsey and Anna Jane Somerville Archer. She was a member of the first Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), was a former employee of the Parkersburg Rig & Reel, later was employed by the Wood County Board of Education and was retired as secretary at the Lincoln School.

She is survived by a son Gary A. Carson of Golden, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Preston Carson, in 1948, three stepsons, one brother and one sister.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, the Rev. G. William Wolford officiating, with burial in mount Olivet Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
