Obituary written by her daughter:
Dorothy Bynum, 86, a 25 year resident of Truth or Consequences, NM, passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 27th, 2019. She was born in Porterville, CA and was the middle of three children. She was predeceased by her parents, Virgil C. and Gladys J. (Montgomery) Crew and her late husband of 43 years, J C Bynum.
As a homemaker, Dorothy lovingly took care of her husband and children. She helped her husband with his many gardens and was active with the Boy Scouts and PTA when her chlidren were school aged. She also loved to sew and embroidery - she made clothes for her family through the years and custom leotards for her daughter. Her favorite colors were green and brown and she detested purple.
An avid reader throughout her life, she would read just about anything but romance novels. She especially enjoyed westerns, history, and anything to do with the Civil War.
Dorothy spent her later years volunteering at Matthew 25 food bank and enjoyed many Seniors Alone group lunches.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Bynum, who lovingly cared for her in the last 10 years of her life; her daughter, Regina De Leon and husband, Miguel, who she referred to as her second son; and her only grandchild, Christopher De Leon. Also surviving are her brother, Robert Crew of Albuquerque, New Mexico and her sister, Betty Wilkerson of Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Dorothy requested her body be cremated. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days.
