Reverend David C. Otto, 69 of Niles, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 27, 2019.

Father David was born on March 1, 1950 in St. Paul Minnesota to the late Florian and Frances (Fruth) Otto.

Father David is survived by his brothers and sisters; Therese (Matthew) Sarec of Dacula, GA, Mark (Jennifer) Otto of Lansing, MI, Stephen (Mary) Otto of Rochelle, IL, Francis (Stella) Otto of Empire, MI, Fred (Michelle) Otto of St. Paul, MN., Nona (Lee) Blauvelt of Landale, PA., Martha (Bill) Wilczynski of Niles, MI and 16 nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind friends who are too numerous to count.

Father David was ordained to the Diaconate on August 21, 1976. His Ordination to the Priesthood occurred on June 17, 1977 at St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo. From 1977 to 1978 he was the Temporary Associate Pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Kalamazoo, then from 1978 to 1983 Father David was the Associate Pastor at St. Joseph Parish in St. Joseph. He then went on to become the Pastor of St. Ambrose Parish in Delton and Pastor of Our Lady of Great Oak Mission Parish from 1983 to 1988. Father David then was assigned to Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Edwardsburg from 1988 to 2006. Then in 2006 until his retirement in 2014, Father David was the Pastor at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Niles. In 2014, Father David was made a Senior Priest in the Diocese of Kalamazoo.

When Father David had time, he enjoyed watching sports. He could be seen out riding his bicycle around town. He was a fan of the Chicago White Sox. In his later years, Father David enjoyed learning the art of story telling. Father David was very close to his family. He always made time to keep in touch with them and to visit with them. Father David was a remarkable man who will be missed.

Visitation for Father David will be on Monday, September 2, 2019 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 219 South State St. from 6pm to 8pm. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30pm Monday. Visitation will also take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday before the service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 am at the Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
