On December 6, 2010, God took his angel Jennifer Marie Sugg, 31, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend back into His loving arms. Jennifer passed away peacefully in her West Toledo home, surrounded by her family. Jenny was born to David and Teresa (Heuker) Brickner on April 16, 1979, in Defiance, Ohio. Jenny graduated from Christ the King Elementary, Central Catholic High School (1997) and the University of Toledo, with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education (2000). Jenny's love of teaching opened her to opportunities to educate and develop lifetime relationships in both Toledo and Cleveland, OH. Jenny was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer 3 1/2 years ago - working toward finding a cure and raising breast cancer awareness became her immediate goal. Jenny never asked "Why Me?" Instead, she went straight to work on helping others fighting cancer, and working towards a cure. She wrote a book, titled A Mommy Can Love You from Anywhere for her two children. Jenny was involved with Stewart's Caring Place in Akron, OH as well as the Victory Center in Toledo, OH. Jenny was active with the Northwest Ohio Branch of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Her Race for the Cure team, Expecting Miracles, set records year after year, including largest team in Northwest Ohio race history. She spoke at high schools and events in the Toledo area to share her journey and encourage early detection. Jenny's journey has been featured on multiple TV stations and in multiple newspapers in Ohio. Jenny most enjoyed spending time with her two children. They loved to dance, sing, paint pottery, and make memories. She also loved scrapbooking, traveling, playing cards, the Dallas Cowboys, the Ohio State Buckeyes and being at her Grandpa Brickner's cottage on Lake Vineyard. She encouraged people to "Expect Miracles" and "Dance in the Rain". Jenny was an angel on Earth, and she touched thousands over her short life. Left to cherish Jenny's memory and carry on her fight are her husband, Michael Z,; son, Jonathon and daughter, Samantha; parents, Teresa and David Brickner; sister, Amy; brother, Ryan and soon to be sister-in-law, Valerie; mother and father-in-law Barbara and Michael W. Sugg; sister-in-law, Kendra (Mark) DeBruine and sister-in-law, Laura (Thomas) Samson; grandparents, Harold and Eileen Heuker and Richard Brickner; Goddaughter, Megan; Godson, Zach, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and family. Preceding her in death is her grandma, Marcella Brickner. The family will receive guests Thursday, December 9th, from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo. Funeral services will be Friday, December 10th at 12 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, with Father William Rose presiding. Burial services will be at Toledo Memorial Park. The family requests that any donations be made to the Expecting Miracles Scholarship at Central Catholic High School in Toledo, which Jenny established to help children who have lost their mother to breast cancer.
