Joan Kuhnle Kaufman, age 90, of Battle Creek, MI passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 21, 2019 in the loving care of her family. She was born June 14, 1929 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Loren and Winifred (Wing) Kuehnle.

Joan graduated high school from Battle Creek Central. After graduation she went on to attend Sweet Briar College, an all-girl Equestrian school in Virginia. Here she earned her first Bachelor’s Degree in 1951. Joan also earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York, New York in 1956. In ’69 earned her Secondary Teaching Certificate from University of Michigan. Lastly, in 1972 she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in counseling from Western Michigan University.

Joan enjoyed reading and loved sports, she especially liked watching University of Michigan football and basketball. She also loved following March Madness, especially the Sweet 16 play. In her younger years, she loved riding horses. That was her first love. Her second was the theatre. Joan loved performing. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for several years.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) Widmer of Augusta; grandchildren Jeffery, Brie, Marisa, Dylan; 3 great-grandchildren; nieces, Melissa Kuehnle, Betsy (Glenn) Linsky; great nephews, Eric and Mark Linsky; and great niece, Amy Linsky Ramon. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert (Betty) Kuehnle.

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2435 W. Territorial Road, Battle Creek, MI on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00am with Reverend Brian Coleman officating.
