Patricia Katherine Shade, of Belton, MO passed away August 24, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. She was born on February 2, 1942 and was a graduate of Paseo High School, Kansas University and University of Missouri in Kansas City. She was married to Samuel Shade on June 25, 1977 and they had a lifetime of adventures until he preceded her in death on June 29, 2016.
Patty started her career with Border Star Elementary, worked for the Grandview School District for many years and retired in 1997 as the Elementary School Principal at Cass Midway R1. She was passionate about lifelong learning and education and touched countless lives throughout her career. She was very active in her church, New Horizons Church of the Nazarene where over the years she led Sunday school, was their Missions Director, served on the church board and went on a Mission trip to Haiti. Patty truly loved life and had countless hobbies from gardening, photography, writing, piano, travelling, sewing, collecting antiques, reading and volunteering. Her family was very important to her and she loved them all dearly.
She is survived by a sister, Loretta Donaghue, and her children Kimberly Bara, Kim Shade, Melissa Moriarty, Samuel Shade and James Shade. When asked her name once at the hospital she said Grandma Shade and that was a role she truly loved. Her grandchildren include Jennifer Morton, Bri Dean, Brendon Dean, Emily Gregg, JT Gregg, Laurel Moriarty, Tyler Shade, Nick Shade, and Jake Shade. She is also survived by many nieces, a nephew and church family and friends that will miss her advice, encouragement, compassion and humor.
Services will be held at the New Horizons Church of the Nazarene on August 31, 2019 located at 17200 Chestnut Dr., Belton, MO 64012. The visitation will be 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with the service starting at 12:00 pm. A graveside service will immediately follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138.
