Bob graduated from Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg Pa. in 1963 and in 1967 graduated from Hobart College with a BA. After graduation, Bob went to officers candidate school and then served in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart, The Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze star.
In 1972, he married Nancy Dee Andrews in Ashland, Ohio. They lived in Hagerstown for more than 30 years and raised five children. Bob and Nancy retired to Bradenton in 2017.
Bob had a passion for telling stories and jokes to make people laugh. Bob served as a judge of Washington County Orphans Court from 2010 to 2014. He was a longtime member of the Hagerstown Exchange Club and loved spending time at the Hagerstown American Legion. Bob loved reading the local paper and completing any crosswords around him. He would never miss any sporting event. An avid Redskins fan, he would turn the TV volume down to hear his favorite radio commentators on station 106.9 as they announced the game. He was loved by all for his quick wit, stupid dad jokes, infectious smile and kind compassionate spirit.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, R.L. Adair Sr.; and mother, Virginia Huntley Adair.
Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Robert L. Adair III and Carla Spataro; son, Aaron and Natalie Adair; grandson, Landon; granddaughter, Emersyn; son, James M.
