Laurence was born on August 7, 1929 in Seiling, Oklahoma. He was an only child of Ross Clarence and Reba Levon (Snow) Stewart. Laurence moved to Vici, Oklahoma when he was two years old. He grew up in Vici where he went to school and played basketball winning the District Championship in 1946. He also worked in the grocery store throughout his school years where he also became a certified butcher. He graduated from Vici High School in 1947 and joined the Air Force in 1948. He went to basic training in San Antonio, Texas at Lackland Air Force Base and then was stationed at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona.
He married Marcella Faye Wood of Sharon, Oklahoma in November of 1948. Their daughter, Susan Kay, was born in 1957. They made their home in Chandler, Arizona until August of 1949 at which time they moved to Sharon, Oklahoma where Laurence worked for his brother-in-law Frank Wood for two years. They then moved to Woodward where he worked for Coca-Cola.
Laurence began working for Nabisco in 1954 where he continued for 39 years. He was fondly known around Northwest Oklahoma as "cookie man". He was frequently recognized by Nabisco for his outstanding salesmanship and accomplishments.
Laurence was a member of the First Christian Church where he was baptized in 1958. Laurence was a member of The American Legion Post 19. He proudly served this organization and was committed to helping veterans. He was also very active in helping to choose and send students to Boys and Girls State.
His other activities included Woodward Coin Club, bowling league (which he took his daughter, Susan, with him), golfing, eating greasy "peppered" hamburgers and playing shuffleboard at S&S Recreation Center also with his daughter.
Laurence always enjoyed going to sports events and keeping up with his favorite teams. He refereed many basketball games throughout Northwest Oklahoma.
Laurence was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His greatest joy was being with his family. They always brought a big smile to his face, especially his granddaughters and great grandsons. Laurence was married to Marcella for 70 years. She was the love of his life and he always put her first and took wonderful care of her.
Laurence is preceded in death by his parents.
