Howard LeRoy Duncan, 80, passed away July 14, 2018 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. A life resident of Hutchinson, Kansas he was born on July 15, 1937, the son of Howard and Allene Audene (Field) Duncan. He was a truck driver for Groendyke Transport for 40 years.
A veteran of the United States Army, he enjoyed riding 4 wheelers with his children and grandchildren, served as a Boy Scout Troop leader, coached baseball, and spent time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. His children and grandchildren were the center of his life.
He married Iva Melvene Knight on April 27, 1956 in Valley Center, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2012.
Survivors include 3 sons, Tony (Mary) Duncan, Richard Griffin, Terry Duncan; 3 daughters, Janet Duncan, Sandy (Brad) Norris, Tracy (Van) Dougan; 2 sisters, Diane (Jerry) Redd, Judy Geddes; grandchildren, Jennifer Norris, Nikki Steierl, Jennifer Smith, Kacey Clark, Kyle Steierl, Andrew Duncan, Matt Steierl, Whitney Drinkwalter, Brandon Norris, Brandon Brooks, Austin Brooks, Tearra Duncan, Levi Duncan, Jacob Steffen; great grandchildren, Brady Smith, Colt Smith, Sydney Drinkwalter, Paige Drinkwalter, Avery Schmidt, Kenzie Schmidt, Jase Schmidt, Jarrin Barber, Jonah Clark, Kaliya Steierl, Kamdyn Steierl, Waylon Steierl, Dylan Williams, Tony Griffin, Nathan Griffin, Rene Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in law, Earl, a son in law Danny Steffen.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. A celebration of life will take place Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors and participation of the American Legion Riders. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice House of Reno County and left in care of the funeral home.
