Tucumcari Car-Truck Crash Kills 3 California Youths
TUCUMCARI (UPI) - Three California youths were killed early today when their car smashed into the side of a huge trailer truck on U.S. 66 about 18 miles east of Tucumcari, near San Jon, N.M.
State Police said truck driver, Paul Aldridge, 48, of Oklahoma City, said the car carrying the youths was on the wrong side of the highway and said when he swerved to avoid it the car struck the gasoline tanks behind the cab of his truck, setting both truck and car on fire.
Dead are Robert L. Taylor, 18, Torrance, Calif.; Clinton A,. Jennings, Jr., 17, Torrance and Jimmy Ryan, 16, Torrance.
In critical condition in Dan Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari was Jerry Ferguson, 18, Hawthorne, Calif.
Neither Aldridge nor relief truck drive Ivan R. Acker of Oklahome city were seriously injured.

TUCUMCARI, N.M. - A fourth California teenager died Thursday of injuries received in a truck-car crash on U.S. 66. He was Jerry Ferguson, 18 of Hawthorne.
Killed Wednesday were three Torrance, Calif. teenagers, Clinton S. Jennings, Jr. 17, Robert L. Taylor, 18, and Jimmy Ryan, 16.
