Helen Anna Wittrock – Hansen was born on February 11, 1919 on the family farm in Primghar, Iowa. Helen passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the age of 100 years, 6 ½ months.
Helen moved from the family farm to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1941 and worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at the Manchester Biscuit Company. On January 23, 1944 she married John Hansen who was then serving in the U.S Army Air Corps. John and Helen continued to live in South Dakota where John worked at Manchester Biscuit Company until moving to Arvada, Colorado in 1961, where John then worked for Bowman Biscuit Company / Keebler.
Helen was actively involved in church activities at Peace Lutheran Church, was a proficient seamstress, loved embroidery projects, enjoyed being involved in golf, bowling and the Ladies Guild at church. Helen sewed a number of alter cloths for Peace Lutheran, which were beautiful and cherished by many. She was an avid flower gardener, excellent baker and enjoyed making more than one pie for family celebrations.
John and Helen participated in a regular dance club for many years, and were known by their friends as being great dance partners on the floor. They enjoyed dancing to big band music, and were experts at the "swing dance." After John's passing in 1991, Helen became a volunteer for 12 years at Lutheran Hospital and also supported her friends in many ways, as later on in life she was diagnosed with breast cancer and became a breast cancer survivor.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Clara Wittrock, husband, John Hansen, brother's Ervin, Donald and sister Wilma Rippentrop. Her living siblings are Arlene Brown of Littleton, Colorado, Marge Hunt (Leon) of Primghar, Iowa, Dick Wittrock (Leona) and Vern Wittrock (Ruth) of Sanborn, Iowa.
Helen had two children, her Son Greg Hansen of Eaton, Colorado (engaged to Char English) and his daughter Mandy Hall (Matt) and their children – Melanie, James and Levi. Daughter, Luana Slettedahl (Mike) of Sedalia, Colorado and their identical twin daughters Nicole Goering (Blake) and their children - Caden, Rowan and Noah and Amy Heap (Joel) and their children - Rylynn and Cody.
Helen's faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit guided her through life in many ways, and she entered peacefully into Heaven having lived a long and active life. For this, Helen received many of God's blessings.
