Mrs. Burgess was born in Oklahoma on July 30, 1932, and was a daughter of Cecil and Earl Githens. She moved to Arizona as a young adult and lived in the area for more than 60 years. Her passion was caring for special needs foster children of the state, and she adopted three.
She was preceded in death by three siblings, Charles, Lloyd and Angie; her husband, John; and three children, Paul, Ocie and Donna. Survivors include a brother, Pat; a son, John; seven grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of life beginning at noon on Saturday, Sept. 7, at J. Warren Funeral Services Memory Gardens. Guests are asked to wear purple in honor of Mrs. Burgess' battle with Alzheimer's dementia.
