George arrived in South Australia on the Clara on 20 January 1859 with his parents and siblings. The family initially settled in Delamere and Rapid Bay before moving to Kangaroo Island in June 1882 where they took up farming at the Wisanger Hills, Menzies.

they had 16 children - William Thomas TURNER 1878-1953, Sarah HALL 1878-1964, Emma Mary BELL 1879-1966, Eliza BELL 1880-1958, Annie Elsie May TURNER 1882-1902, Jane BARRETT 1883-1974, Kate BURDON 1885-1928, Florence Maud SCHAEFER 1887-1981, Lucy Mary BOXER 1889-1968, Ellen Irene HAWKES 1891-1966, George Alfred TURNER 1892-1940, Rose JACKA 1894-1986, Pearl JACKA 1897-1992, Charles Arthur Roper (Dick) TURNER 1899-1970, Jessie Linver JACKA 1901-1972 and Victor Harcourt (Harcourt) TURNER 1903-1952.
Most of these children remained on Kangaroo Island, Jane, Rose, Pearl and Jessie all moved to the Gilbert Valley, Kate moved to Freeling and Ellen moved to Tumby Bay. Descendants of George and Amelia still resided on Kangaroo Island in 2024.

OBITUARY. On Sunday evening last, March 5th, Mr. George Turner passed away at his residence ' Silverton Farm' in Wisanger at the age of 86 years. He was born in Kent, England on the 5th of June 1852 and was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Turner who came to South Australia in 1868, on the ship ' Clara' arriving in December of that year.
After a short period in the north, the family removed to Cape Jervis. ln 1876 the late Mr. Turner married Miss Mary Amelia Roper who predeceased him.
In 1882 the deceased applied and was allotted land in the Hd. of Menzies at Wisanger and with his big family came to Kangaroo Island. He has resided on ' Silverton Farm' for about fifty-six years. The new settlers realizing the need of a building for meetings, church services and school purposes, formed a commitee and built the Wisanger Farmers Assembly Bail, known as the School. The late Mr. Turner became a Trustee and held that position at the time of his death. He was also one of the first members of the School Board and he held the position of Postmaster for about fifty years. All movements for the improvement of the district received his support.
In his younger days he was as enthusiastic cricketer, and he captained the Wisanger Cricket Club for several years. He is survived by four sons and two daughters. There are 77 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. In the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends, his remains were laid to rest in the Kingscote Cemetery on Monday afternoon. The Rev. H. J. C Hughes officiated at the graveside.
