James William Abston, 61, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019. He was born April 16, 1958 in Friona, Texas to Claud and Lula Jane (Tennison) Abston. He attended public schools and graduated from Hereford High School in Hereford, Texas.

James said he didn’t need school; he was born to drive. He worked as a truck driver for over 35 years, a job he loved doing every day.

He met his life partner, Donnell Winters, and she became his bride on April 15, 2012; one day before his birthday. Their first date consisted of going to church, going out to eat, and going for a drive. They were blessed with many wonderful memories in the seven years they shared.

James loved nothing more than spending time with Donnell, his family and friends, trucking, and riding his motorcycle. He died doing what he loved.

He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Lula Abston.

James is survived by the love of his life, Donnell of Muskogee; sisters, Debra Branch and husband Bennie; LaDale Holt, all of Guthrie, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

Funeral services celebrating James’ life will be 10AM, Friday, August 30, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Durr officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Fairchild, Ronnie Pack, Randy Talley, Dennis Patterson, Johnny Braxton, and Ernie Ralph. Honorary pallbearer will be Steve Pilkington.
