Edith A. Hedges, 90, Waldorf, MD.
Edith Annie Hedges passed peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Hospice of Charles County. She was the beloved wife of the late Vernard Hedges and is survived by her daughter Barbara McDonell (David), son Vernard, Jr. (Gill), grandchildren, Lindsay Sarver (Matt), and Gregory McDonell (Jen), and great-grandchildren Jackson, Hudson, and Maddie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Annie Moore, her siblings, Harvey, Dorothy, Elbert Moore and Florence Greene. She is survived by her sister, Elsie Clark of Rockville, MD.
After graduating from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., she attended Strayer College of Accountancy before gaining employment bookkeeping at Leonberger’s Music Store and later holding positions with the Washington Gas Company, the Health Department, and the U.S. Botanic Gardens.
Edith was a military wife who lived in Texas, Delaware, New York, and England before settling in Maryland in 1965. She was happiest spending time with her family. She was a tender-hearted, compassionate person who always put others before herself.
Viewing at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, 211 St. Marys Ave., LaPlata, MD. 20646 will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, followed by a funeral service at noon. Internment will immediately follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3165 Mattawoman Beantown Rd., Waldorf, MD.
