Job Allen was born in Indiana January 1st, 1840, and died at his home in Oak, Nebraska, January 21, 1915, aged 75 years and 21 days. He was converted and joined the Christian church at the age of 29 years. He enlisted in the 114th Ills. Infantry at the beginning of the Civil War and served the entire time. Was a prisoner in Andersonville eleven months and twenty-one days.

He was married February 28, 1868, to Mary K. Chenoweth at Mt. Pulaski, Ills. The family came to Nuckolls county (sic) in the early seventies and has since resided here. Nine children were born to this union, eight of whom with the wife still survive. They are Taylor Allen and Mrs. Sam Cox of Sheridan, Wyoming; Mrs. Jos. Ellsworth of North Platte, Nebraska; Mrs. Amos Neer of LaFountaoine, Kansas; Mrs. A.W. Taylor of Rosebura, Oregon; Mrs. Harry Washington, Mrs. L.W. Leeter and Samuel Allen of Oak, Nebraska. All were present at the funeral with the exception of Taylor Allen and Mrs. A.W. Taylor.

Mr. Allen was a member of the G.A.R. and A.O.U.W. having belonged to the latter Order for 24 years.

The funeral was held Sunday, January 24, at the M.E. Church in Oak, conducted by Rev. Briggs of Ruskin, and the rembains (sic) laid to rest in the Oak cemetery. XXX
