JOHN NARANJO JARAMILLO
3-18-1931 to 10-22-2018

John Naranjo Jaramillo, age 87, loving husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle, passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2018, with his wife Ninfa by his side. John was born March 18, 1931 in Rincon, NM to Patricio and Gregoria Jaramillo. In 1954 he received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy for his service in the Naval Reserve. He again served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1957 stationed in France.
John married his beloved wife, Ninfa on June 15, 1951 at St. Genevieve Church in Las Cruces, NM. They were blessed with the birth of their son John S. Jaramillo. After having obtained his journeyman status, he moved his family to Eureka, CA in 1960. In 1965 he obtained his electrical contractor's license and founded his company Empire Electric. His work involved major projects such as schools, airports, stadium lighting, food processing plants and general electrical work.
He was one of the first individuals to participate in the restoration of historical buildings in the Rehabilitation Program for Old Town in Eureka, CA. He restored a historical building that was converted into low-rent housing and five commercial units.
As president, and later as board member of the Latin American Club, a non-profit charitable organization in Eureka, CA, he, along with the membership was instrumental in promoting Hispanic culture. The goals of the association were to provide assistance to persons in need and also to raise funds for community projects.
After completing a successful business venture, he retired and moved back to Las Cruces to be with family and friends.
He began his membership in the Knights of Columbus in Eureka, CA and later transferred to Las Cruces Council 1226 when he moved back to Las Cruces in 1996. He holds honorary membership in both Council 1226 and Assembly 0684. He achieved Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator status.
With his wit and great sense of humor he had no problem approaching any stranger and start a conversation. He had great compassion and generosity and above all love for his Creator, his family and his friends. He loved the Redwoods and spending time in Myers Flat, CA with family and friends. John and Ninfa celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2018.
He was preceded in death by his father, Patricio Jaramillo; mother, Gregoria Naranjo Jaramillo; brothers, Luis and Ray Jaramillo; sister, Sadie Serna.
Those left to mourn his passing include his lovely wife, Ninfa Soto Jaramillo; his son, John Soto Jaramillo, and wife Rhonda; sisters, Mickie Chavez, Mary Boulger and husband Tom; Betty Soto and husband George; brother, Pat A. Jaramillo and wife Marge; grandchildren, Heidi Nyman and husband James, Justin Jaramillo and wife Ronele, Jamie Gonsalves and husband Paul, Dylan Jaramillo; great­ grandchildren, Berkley Dorfer, Kade Jaramillo, Parker Gonsalves, Peyton Gonsalves, and Sierra Jaramillo; great-great grandson, Breydon Dorfer; nieces and nephews, Mario Loya and wife Marta, Jose Luis Loya and wife Dolores, Oscar Loya and wife Sylvia, Norma Genera and husband Henry, Rosa Hernandez and husband David, Ninfa Huerta and husband Fred, Katherine Thrash and husband Stan, and Gerald Jaramillo.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday October 30, 2018 at 10 AM in St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina with Reverend Juan Camilo Montoya officiating. Inurnment of Cremains will follow in St. Genevieve Columbarium with military honors accorded by New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League-El Perro Diablo Detachment. The Knights of Columbus Assembly 00684 will be present.
