BJ was a very active lady in her lake community; she was a member and Queen of the Red Hats, she held numerous offices in the Lion/Lioness Club of Toledo Bend, she was a member of the Board of Directors at the Sabine Council of Aging. In addition, she was actively involved in the Louisiana Eye Foundation where she tested student’s vision all over the area in schools. Also, she taught arts & crafts at Walmart. It is very evident that Barbara loved people and enjoyed spending time trying to improve the Zwolle/Toledo Bend area. Two of her favorite past times were playing bingo and Pokeno with friends and family members.
Preceding Barbara in death were her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Rudy Scholl; her husband, W.E. “Sparky” Sparks; her son, Arthur “Butch” Carlson; and her daughter, Janice Garcie. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Ann Brown of Peoria, IL grandchildren, Brian Dunbar of Chillicothe, IL, Tammara Howell, and husband, Jeffrey of Nokomis, IL; along with 6 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren
Barbara’s family would like to thank all the staff at Toledo Retirement for the friendship, comfort and care they provided over the past several years for her.
