Susie S. Thomas, 76, of Reston, VA and formerly of Radnor, died on Dec. 24, 2013, in Denver, CO, of a stroke. A native of the Washington D.C. area, Susie was the daughter of O.R. and Martha (Arnold) Strackbein and a graduate of Washington & Lee High School of Arlington, VA, in 1955. She received her Associates degree in Art from Ohio University and a B.A. in Art from American University of Washington, D.C. She married Charles H. Thomas of Arlington, VA in November 1957 and later worked as a bookkeeper for Washington real estate developer Gustave Ring. She moved with her family to Newtown Square in 1970 when her husband took a job with Colonial Penn insurance company in Philadelphia. In the early 1970s, she was a member of Welcome Wagon and a Brownie troop leader at Ithan Elementary School; later she worked as an administrative assistant for Honeywell in Bala Cynwyd. A parishioner of St. David's Church in Wayne, she was one of the founding members of the church's community garden on Church Road. In the mid-1980s, divorced, she returned to Washington D.C. area, where she worked as an administrative assistant for Shearson Lehman Brothers, Inc., American President Lines and Decision Quest. Since her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering as a gardener at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, VA. She is survived by her daughter . . . and son-in-law . . . of Paris, France; her son . . . of Los Angeles, CA; and her granddaughters . . . .
