Funeral services for Mrs. Emogene Garrett, 89 of Dayton, Ohio and formerly of Cookeville & Monterey will be held Friday August 30 at 11 a.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery.

Eastern Star services will be conducted Thursday at 7 p.m. following visitation.

Mrs. Garrett died Sunday August 25, 2019 at 3:23 a.m. in Otterbein of Springboro Senior Life Neighborhood in Centerville, Ohio.

She was born May 19, 1930 in the Sand Springs community near Monterey to the late Alfred W. and Ella Roberson Welch.

Emogene worked as an office clerk at Scholastic Magazines and later in the food service industry as a server and manager. She adored her grandchildren who lovingly referred her as Grandma Doll.

She was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and while residing in Ohio, Miamisburg First Church of God. She was a member of Cookeville Eastern Star Chapter 152.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Billy Garrett (whom she married May 30, 1947 in Rossville, GA); an infant son; brothers (including an infant brother Alfred W. Welch, Jr.), Willard, Clinton, Reed, Sam, and James “Doc” Welch; and sisters, Wanda Christine Fleenor and Dixie Pauline Poteet.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Roy Maxwell of Centerville; grandchildren, Todd and Renee' Maxwell of Pleasant Hill, OH and Craig and Emily Maxwell of Dayton, OH; fourteen great-grandchildren; and by sister, Anna Ruth Burroughs of Cookeville.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
