Maxine A. Dixon, 95 of Coffeyville, transitioned to her new home on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
She was born on September 18, 1922 in Cherryvale, KS to Edward V. and Catherine (Jones) Reddins. She attended grade school through high school in Cherryvale. After high school, she attended Coffeyville Community College.
Maxine cherished her many positions. She retired after 24 years from the Kansas Ammunition Plant. She was also self-employed as a beautician. After retirement, her work continued in the community, where she served as a Girl Scout Leader and later in the leadership of the Coffeyville Senior Retreat. In addition, she was a Life Member of the NAACP.
For many years, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and upon her death, was a member of Sardis First Missionary Baptist Church. Her service was demonstrated as Missionary President, Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, and Trustee. She was also District Congress Corresponding Secretary. Maxine was also a choir member for over 52 years.
Over the years, Maxine always loved fishing and working her word puzzles. She truly loved taking pictures and was known as the "photography lady".
Maxine was married to Harry J. Dixon in December, 1947, and remained married until his death March, 1993. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Edward and Ernest Reddins.
Survivors include her children: Reverend Marian Sykes Johnson (James) from Morris Plains, NJ; Harry E. Dixon (Judy) from Oklahoma City, OK; 3 sisters: Leona Williams, Independence, KS; Lillian Selmon and husband Elmer and Norma Selmon and husband Charles. She has 2 grandchildren Kathy Dixon and Shiela Dixon Doss and husband Decovan of Oklahoma City, OK; and 5 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be Monday, September 10th from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Mission Funeral Services, 502 S. Union, Coffeyville, KS, The family will receive friends from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Graveside home gong service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the Fairview Veteran Memorial Patio.
