Peter J Oesterling, 59, died on July 19, in Akron, OH, following a motorcycle accident.
He was a resident of Baltimore, OH, and Slippery Rock, PA. Peter was preceded in death by his brother Matthew and father former State Senator Donald O. Oesterling. He is survived by his mother, Ann McDowell Oesterling, his wife, Judy, son Peter J Oesterling Jr., daughter Kristin Bowers, brother Michael J. Oesterling, sister, Dawn Prebula, grandchildren Riley and Harper Tiedemann, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Peter graduated from Hershey High School, Slippery Rock University, and received his Juris Doctor at the University of Puget Sound, in Tacoma, WA. He recently retired from Nationwide Insurance where he was an Associate Vice President. Peter was also very philanthropic. After serving six years on the SRU Council of Trustees, Peter helped establish the McDowell-Phillips-Oesterling Football Scholarship and the Peter J Oesterling Family Scholarship.
A remembrance of Peter’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 27th at the Butler Pennsylvania Elks at 5 PM. There will then be another remembrance at the Four S Club in Columbus, OH on Tuesday, August 2, at 7 PM.
