George E. Gibson Charles, 79, Hopkinsville, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chosen Stone Baptist Church, 2410 Canton St., with the Rev. Benice Rasnake and Jimmy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.

A native of Christian County, he was born July 19, 1940, the son of William Henderson Gibson and Elizabeth Pollard King. He was raised by his adoptive parents Frank Marvin Charles and Eula West Charles.

He worked as a mechanic and street sweeper for the City of Hopkinsville. He was a United States Army veteran who served in Panama. He was a member of the Hopkinsville DAV and Chosen Stone Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Roxie Hatch and Sue Ann Baner; and a brother, Lewis Gibson.

Survivors include his partner, Priscilla Jane Charles, Hopkinsville; his adoptive son, Richard Charles, San Antonio, Texas; his brother, William (Janette) Boyd Gibson Charles, Crofton; and his sister, Betty Cooper, Hopkinsville.
