Born December 19, 1939 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Lillian S. (Bumbaugh) Cordell.
He and his wife, the late Bettie E. (Hovis) Cordell, were married on June 15, 1957 in Fayetteville, PA. They lived on Anthony Highway all their married life. Mrs. Cordell died on March 15, 2016.
Mr. Cordell began working in the orchards at the ripe young age of twelve, to working and eventually running multiple shoe factories in Virginia, Tennessee, Texas and even a stint in China. When not at work, “Pap” could be found deep sea fishing, hunting with his sons, wise cracking and smiling at the poker table, touring the country on his Harley, or tasting the finest cuisines with his wife Bettie. Most importantly, though, of all the things he loved, he made sure to share them with those he loved most, his family and friends and friends that became family.
He is survived by three children, Paul “Tony” Cordell of Forksville, PA, Bobbi A. Golden of Chambersburg, and Phil A. Cordell and his wife, Sherry of Chambersburg; five grandchildren: Tammy S. Shearer, Ashley K. Cordell, Jeremiah A. Cordell, Jarred N. Cordell, and Saige A. Cordell; two great-grandchildren: Aiden C. Shearer and Annika "Rosie" Shearer; one sister, Charlotte Cook of Chambersburg; one brother, Ronald Cordell of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Kenneth Golden, II; three sisters, Dort Olson, Patsy High, and Sandra Lee Cordell; and two brothers, Johnny Alberts and Gary Lee Cordell.
Services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, August 25, 2019, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Don Drury and Pastor DeVona Cordell officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday afternoon, in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, PA and the public is welcome to attend.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Sunday evening, in the funeral home.
