Delbert J. Haire, 85, of Wheeler was called home by his Lord on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in Wheeler.

Services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, August 24, 2019 in the Wheeler Area Church of Christ. Burial with US Air Force Honors will follow in Wheeler Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.

Delbert J. Haire was born October 23, 1933 at home in the Eastern part of Texas outside of Deport TX to William Daniel Franklin and Dora Elize Evelyn (Tully) Haire and was the 4th of 8 children. Delbert and his family moved to the Texas Panhandle area sometime during his early years. Here he worked the cotton fields and briefly as a cowboy for the Mashed O ranch before he with his family moved to Oregon then to the northern part of California where Delbert became acquainted with the lumber industry. Until enlistment in the United States Air Force in June 1952 serving on the aircrafts known as B29 , B47, B52, and KC 135. Delbert Haire served his country honorably in the U S Air Force around the world and stationed at one time in Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam. Once transferred back to the continental United States he remained until achieving his Air Force retirement with the rank of Master Sergeant and 9 commendations and metals in September 1972.

By this time in Delbert’s life he had married Leota Marie Adams Haire in July 20, 1955 and now had two daughters Sharon and Peggy. After Delbert’s retirement he moved his family to the bay area of California until moving to Perryton Texas 1975 due to available work. Here he worked in the oilfield industry as a mechanic and truck driver until he and Leota moved to Wheeler Texas about September 1991 when he retired from the trucking industry in 1998. It was at Wheeler where he and his wife Leota became active members in the Wheeler Area Church of Christ where he dedicated his life in serving his Lord Jesus.

Delbert Haire was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Leota, parents William and Evelyn Haire, Brothers Tommy and William (Pat) Haire, and Sisters Artie Tidwell and Joan McCarty.

Delbert is survived by 2 daughters and their husbands – Sharon and Rickey Brown, Peggy and Ricky Smithey ; One Granddaughter Jeramie Heldermon and her husband Wade of El Dorado Oklahoma; three great grandson - Jarrett, Jaton, Jayson; and two sisters and their husbands - Joy and Jerry Riley of Overgaard Arizona, Connie and Bill Cedarburg of Conway Washington; and a brother and his wife Mike and Sandy Haire of Grand Junction Colorado; extended family to include cousins, nieces, nephews and very large church family to who he carried for deeply.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Church of Christ – Wheeler Area PO Box 1250 Wheeler, TX 79096, the Alzheimer’s Association, or Michael J Fox Foundation.
