She was born December 16, 1916 in Catawba County to the late Fred and Christina Finger Beard. Rosa was a lifelong member of May’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Maiden where she was an active member for many years and the oldest living member at the time of her death. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Poovey; daughter, Gaye Poovey Mills; brothers, Clyde Beard, Glenn Beard, Bill Beard and Robert Beard; sisters, Mary Emmitt, Dorothy Lazenby, Louise Davis and Edith Pirkle; grandson, Darin L. Poovey; granddaughter, Julie Poovey Hull; great-granddaughter, Ashley Poovey; 3 infant great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Rosa’s life will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at May’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Maiden. Rev. Byron Alexander and Rev. Ralph J. Lepley will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
