Joyce A. Zimmerman, 70, of Hastings passed away August 20, 2019 in Beatrice after a brief battle with cancer. She was born November 20, 1948 in Beatrice to Ruth (Maguire) and Jerome Johnson. She attended school in Beatrice. Joyce married William (Bill) Zimmerman on October 24, 1964. They were married for 54 years and had five children. They lived in various places throughout Nebraska but eventually settled in Hastings in 1989. After her children were out of the house, Joyce began working at Walmart in Hastings. She worked at Walmart for 22 years before retiring due to health issues. She was an avid collector of Harry Potter collectibles and books. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce was always known for her smile.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of Hastings; three daughters, Kristy Troxel (Sid Robinson) of Beatrice, Karla (Randy) Gyhra of Pawnee City and Keri Zimmerman (Ali Petrik) of Hastings; one son, Kirk (Jennifer) Zimmerman of Beatrice; six grandchildren, Misty (Matt) Ideus, Tyler (Ashley) Troxel, Brent (Allison) Gyhra, Megan Miller, Chenoa and Tehya Zimmerman; seven great-grandchildren, Oliver and Emma Ideus, Isabelle Gyhra, Symphony and Kenya Miller, Eli and Leo Troxel; two sisters, Glenna Weiner of Blue Springs and Lynne (Dennis) Day of Washington, KS; brother-in-law, Wayne (Jeanette) Zimmerman of Lewiston; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Ruth (Maguire) Johnson; her son, Kevin, who died on April 2, 1988; son-in-law, Merlin Troxel; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Fox Funeral Home with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing but a register book will be available for signatures on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice. www.foxfuneralhome.net Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
