Mrs. Murfree, long active in civic and religious affairs of the community, died early Sunday morning, at Rutherford hospital, after an extended illness.
She was the widow of the late Dr. Matthias Brickell Murfree, who died in 1943. She was a member of the Rutherford County Medical Auxiliary; American Legion Auxiliary; Womens Club; Craddock Study Club and Women of the Church, of which she was a life long member.
Mrs. Murfree was the daughter of the late Williamand Harriet Foard Wendel. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Johnson, of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Dr. M. B. Murfree Jr., of Murfreesboro; a brother, David D. Wendel, of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. James P. Hill and Mrs. Robert Forster, of Jacksonville, Florida, and four grandchildren.
