JENKINS, Ronnie Celebration of life for Mr. Ronnie Steve Jenkins, will be held on Friday August 1, 2014 at 11 am at Cascade United Methodist Church 3144 Cascade Road SW Atlanta. Rev Lawrence Young, Pastor. Instate 10 am. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the church at 10:30 am on day of service. Interment Westview Cemetery. Ronnie Steve (Ron) Jenkins, age 70, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2014 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was born on May 19, 1944, in Deland FL, the second oldest son of Zettie Mae Lois Johnson and Robert James Jenkins, and had seven siblings. Ron grew up in DeLand, FL. He graduated Euclid High School in DeLand, FL in 1962. After high school he moved to Atlanta to attend college. He attended college at Morehouse in Atlanta, GA where he received a B. S. in Biology and Chemistry, Georgia State University with a M.S. in Health Administration and post graduate studies at John Hopkins University. Mr. Jenkins began work for Grady Memorial Hospital as a health educator and community organizer where he worked for over 25 years. In 1974, he briefly worked with the American Cancer Society Office in New York City, but decided to return to Atlanta where he was employed in the Family Health Branch, Division of Public Health for the Georgia Department of Human Resources as a health educator until his retirement in 2000. He then became a part-time consultant and finally a full time employee as a Senior Management Analysis with Danya International out of Silver Springs MD where he was affectionately known as "the ambassador". Ron married Cynthia in 1966 in Atlanta, GA. They were happily married for 48 years. Ron was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the 100 Black Men of America Inc. where he served on various committees. He enjoyed fishing and looking at cowboy movies on TV. He also received many awards including being selected as Brother of the Year for his fraternity. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Robert Jenkins; mother, Zetta Mae Lois Johnson; sister, Sarah Johnson, and brothers, Carl Johnson and Curtis Johnson. Ron is survived by spouse Cynthia of Atlanta, GA; daughter Michelle, (Clarence), Christian of Dallas, GA; brothers Ramon Howell of Jacksonville, FL and Kenneth Johnson of DeLand, FL; sisters Barbara Patrick and Sandra Johnson of DeLand, FL; step-brother Steven Jenkins of Silver Springs, MD; grandchildren Clarence Raynard Christian, Jr., Connor Ronnie Christian, and Cameron Robert Christian and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
