David Lee McCracken, 77, of Richwood, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, August 19, 2019.

He was born on April 12, 1942 in Ashland to the late Albert and Jean (Dessenberg) McCracken, he was also preceded in death his first wife Nancy Motter. On November 4, 1975 he married the former Barbara Estep in Florence, South Carolina and she survives in Richwood.

He graduated from Ashland High School in 1960. David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1966 until 1972. He also served in the Air National Guard for three years, as well as the Army National Guard. He had served as a Police Officer for Ashland City as well as a Sheriff?s Deputy for Ashland County.

David had worked as the Water and Wastewater Superintendent and also served as the Village Administrator for the Village of Richwood in the late eighties and early nineties. He also worked for Honda of America where he was a team leader until retiring in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Barb McCracken, his children Keith (Barb) McCracken, Shreve; Deena Meyer, Wooster; Dirk McCracken, Richwood; Tabatha (Brian) Saunders, Richwood; Jennifer (David) Hawkins, Richwood; Amber McCracken, Richwood; and Melissa (Anthony) Van Hoose, Richwood. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sunshine, Levi, Kristine, Brianna, Dawson, Abagail, Katlyn, Kaylee, Emma, Ayden, Kenden, Hezekiah, Colton and Ava; four great grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Alyce) McCracken, Ann (Bill) Callahan and Susan (Mark) Hamilton.

David was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. He relished time with his family, especially when it came to his grandchildren. He was a proud Marine often stating, "Not as mean, not as lean but still a Marine."

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating. Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Union County Honor Guard. Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home in Richwood.
