Matt Richardson June 25, 1957 - October 21, 2017 SAN DIEGO

The Point-of-Sale world suffered a big loss this past weekend as Matt Richardson, President and CEO of SDCR Business Systems in San Diego, passed away on Saturday, October 21st, at the age of 60.

Matt entered the cash register and POS arena at a young age and was a self-proclaimed "S.o.B." (Son of a Boss) as the youngest son of Bob Richardson who founded San Diego Cash Register, Inc. in 1967. Upon Bob's passing in 1988, Matt was the new CEO and quickly became a force in the industry. His strong and innovative style of leadership, along with a fearlessness to always speak up when needed, earned him great respect in the business community. With a bachelor's from San Diego State University in marketing, he often came up with radical ideas for reaching new markets and verticals, which continuously drove new sales. Some ideas were better than others, but they always kept coming, and many of them ended up setting standards for how POS resellers market their businesses.Over the years San Diego Cash Register turned into SDCR Business Systems and represented several major POS products and brands in the retail, ticketing, grocery, but it was in hospitality and foodservice with Aloha POS the real success came. SDCR was awarded the NCR President's Cup (worldwide reseller of the year) in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017.

Matt served on numerous boards and advisory committees for companies like IBM, TEC, ScanSource, Radiant Systems, and most recently NCR Corporation. Yet he was so much more than a successful entrepreneur and business owner. His passion for theatre, arts, music and singing caught on at an early age and culminated in his membership of the San Diego Gay Men's Choir with whom he performed for the last four years and dozens of highly acclaimed shows. Also, a boat owner and avid fisherman, Matt loved to spend time on the water, often with a fishing pole in his hands.Mateo, as he liked his friends and family to call him, stood enthusiastically for equal rights with consistent support and donations to the LGBT community.

Matt is survived by his two daughters, Ashley and Ality, grandson Jackson, and two brothers John and Bob.For anyone who would like more information about the upcoming Celebration of Life for Matt, please send an email to: [email protected]
