Geraldine was educated in the Public Schools of Colleton County. She joined Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Islandton, South Carolina and accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, listening to Gospel music, and attending church.
Geraldine was employed at Bells Elementary School for thirty years as a Custodian in addition to Food Service. She retired after thirty years of service.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. William James Mitchell. To this union, eleven children were born. Geraldine was preceded in death by four children, Ola M. Lightsey, Betty Ann Mitchell, Robert V. Mitchell, and John D. Mitchell; one grandson, Tommy Kevin Mitchell.
She leaves to cherish many memories: one daughter, Frankie J. Mitchell of Ruffin, SC; six sons, Lee Otis Mitchell, Ricky Mitchell, James Dubois, all of Ruffin, SC; Timmy Mitchell and Jimmy Mitchell, both of Walterboro, SC, and Tommy Mitchell (Daisy) of Green Pond, SC; nineteen Grandchildren; thirty-five Great-Grandchildren; four Great-Great Grandchildren; one sister, Lola M. Mays of Walterboro, SC; one daughter-in-law, Annette Mitchell of Walterboro, SC; three sisters-in-law, Audrey Mitchell, and Roberta Mitchell, both of Ruffin, SC, and Kaffer Mitchell of Columbia, SC; two very Special friends, Angeline Givens and Mable Broughton, both of Ruffin, SC and a host of other relatives and friends.
