Derek was a graduate of the Colleton County High School, Walterboro, South Carolina. He was employed with Wal-Mart and he was also a proud member of the U.S Army National Guard Unit 1223rd Engineering .Company. Derek enjoyed playing video games in his leisure time.
Derek was preceded in death by his father, Derrick James Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memories,his loving mother Acquanette Broughton Smith of Walterboro, South Carolina; his grandmother Pearline Williams of Goose Creek, South Carolina; a special uncle, Stevie A. Smith (Earline) of Walterboro, South Carolina who stood in as his father figure since the passing of his biological father; other uncles, Larry Frasier (Tina) of Burton, Alabama, Robert L Williams II (A’knottrea) of Summerville, South Carolina, Devin C. Williams of Walterboro,South Carolina; aunts, Paula Smith of Walterboro, South Carolina, Tanzania Williams of N.Charleston, South Carolina, Ra’Nekqua Williams of Goose Creek, South Carolina; and a host of grand and great uncles, aunts, cousins other relatives and friends.
